Biomedical Optics Research Lab

The Biomedical Optics Research Lab studies the optical performance of the human eye using advanced computational modeling and optical metrology. The lab develops personalized “Virtual Eye” simulations integrating real biometric measurements to better understand visual quality in normal and surgically treated eyes.

Focus and Services

  • Optical modeling of intraocular lens (IOL) performance
  • Corneal refractive surgery and irregular corneas impact on visual quality
  • Interaction between corneal aberrations and IOL optics
  • AI-based prediction of postoperative IOL position and optical outcomes

Technologies & Methods

  • Optical design and simulation platforms (e.g., Zemax)
  • White Light Interferometry (WLI) profilometry
  • Data-driven analysis and machine learning
